Khurshid Ismail - Head Coach at Pendle karate

Black Belt 5th Dan

A 5th Dan black belt brings a high level of technical knowledge, experience, and leadership to a junior coaching session. With many years of training and teaching behind them, they can break down techniques clearly, ensure correct fundamentals, and create a safe, structured environment where young students build confidence, discipline, and strong karate basics. Their experience also helps them motivate and guide children as they progress through their training.

Karate is my passion and has been for over 45 years.

Pendle Karate is led by a dedicated 5th Dan Black Belt instructor Khurshi Ishmail. With more than 45 years of karate experience he has trained with some of the most respected organisations in traditional karate, spending 38 years as a member of the Shukokai Karate Union (SKU) and a further 5 years with the Shukokai-Shito Ryu Karate Alliance (SSKA). He is now a proud member of the British Combat Karate Association (BCKA).

Throughout his karate journey he has competed at regional, national, and international championships, winning medals at every level. His competition experience, combined with decades of teaching, allows him to pass on valuable knowledge to students in a clear, supportive, and motivating way.

He is a fully qualified and insured Senior Club Instructor and holds certification in Emergency First Aid and is also CRB Checked. Student welfare and safety are extremely important at Pendle Karate, and the club operates with established policies including:

  • Child Protection Policy

  • Anti-Bullying Policy

  • Health & Safety Policy

All necessary background checks are completed, ensuring a safe and professional training environment for all students.

With a lifelong passion for karate, the goal at Pendle Karate is simple: to help every student develop confidence, discipline, respect, and strong martial arts skills while enjoying their training.

Competitions

Competition is an important part of learning karate. It creates a focus for students providing an exciting opportunity to test their skills and gain valuable experience and of course move through the grades. Tournaments allow children to challenge themselves, learn good sportsmanship, and represent their club in a positive way. Whether they win or lose, competitions help students build confidence, resilience, and a sense of achievement.

Pendle Karate Championship

Every year the club holds it’s own Pendle karate Championships. This is open to all ages and abilities with students of similar ability competing against other.
